Ludwig B. Christman was born in Germany in 1797, he died in 1880 in Seneca Township, Monroe County, Ohio. His wife, Christina Todd also was born in Germany in 1801 and died in 1881 in Seneca Township, Monroe County, Ohio. They were blessed with two children while living in Germany which set sail with them enroute to America. One child died while traveling to America and was buried at sea. They had one other son after settling in America. Their children were, Louis B. and Godrey Christman.
It is not know for sure when these families left Germany, but there has been belief that they left in 1827 and arrived in Pittsburgh in early 1828, staying there until 1832. When they arrived in Seneca Township, Ohio the two brother bought adjoining farms where they lived until their deaths. The brothers and their spouses are all buried in the Middle Church Cemetery, Summit Township, Monroe County, Ohio which is about five miles from their farms. All four are buried in the same row side by side.
The first record found of any Christman
(Crissman) living in Monroe County was in the 1850 census. Where
we found Jacob Crissman, wife, Eva both born in Germany and married in
1825. We now spell the name Christman. We also know that three
sons and a daughter from these families married a Pfalzgraf, all brothers
and sisters. The 1850 census also list the Pfalzgraf family with
their names spelled 'Pallscraft' as being from Alsace-Loraine, France.
